In conjunction with ANU Inward Bound (an endurance and orienteering running competition held between the residential halls and colleges of the ANU), ANU Sport has been delivering an Inward Bound preparation short course to those training to compete! Each session so far has covered a variety of topics, from basic safety measures for during the race, to first aid training, to how to physically prepare one's body for such an intense feat of endurance.
Last week, a wilderness first aid course was delivered by St. Johns Ambulance Australia. Hopefully, our runners won't need it, but in case of an emergency, the course has delivered them the skills to attend to basic first aid requirements in the context of a secluded, unpredictable outdoor location.
Earlier in the term, an ANU Sport personal trainer spoke to the runners about nutritious and training techniques in the lead up to the race.
It's not long until the runners will be driven out to an undisclosed location somewhere in NSW or ACT, and dropped in the middle of nowhere! We wish them the best of luck for the remainder of their training.
