Candidates ANU Sport Board 2026 - Caitlin Weaver

Nominee Statement

As a current ANU student and active participant in university sport, I am motivated to help ensure ANU Sport remains a welcoming, accessible and high-value part of campus life for all students, staff and the wider community. Sport has a unique ability to build connection, wellbeing and belonging across diverse groups. I would value the opportunity to contribute a strong student perspective to Board decisions, particularly around increasing participation beyond existing sporting cohorts, improving awareness of opportunities, and ensuring programs, facilities and services meet the evolving needs of the broader ANU and wider community, while supporting long-term sustainability.

Involvement in ANU Sport or broader sport sector

I have engaged with ANU Sport across multiple areas, including representing Bruce Hall in Interhall competitions, competing for ANU at UniSport Nationals, participating in social sport competitions, and attending group fitness programs including Pilates classes. This has given me experience of ANU Sport from both competitive and recreational perspectives. Beyond university, I have played competitive netball for many years, including state league level, and have umpiring experience. I also played both Beach Volleyball and Indoor Volleyball for ACT at junior nationals. These experiences provide insight into participation pathways, member engagement, athlete wellbeing and the value of inclusive sporting communities.

Professional / Leadership skills and experience

I currently serve as Senior Residential Mentor at Bruce Hall, where I lead staff, support student wellbeing, manage incidents and contribute to operational decision-making within a complex residential environment. This role has strengthened my leadership, people management, risk awareness and stakeholder engagement skills. As an APS 3 at Questacon, I have developed strong communication, customer service, retail, administration and public engagement capability, providing insight into commercial operations and service delivery. I also bring governance experience through student representative roles on the Board of Campbell High School, including financial matters, and the BSSS Student Forum.

Lived Experience

As a current student living on campus, I bring direct lived experience of balancing study, work, wellbeing and community involvement. I understand the barriers students face to participating in sport, including time pressures, cost, confidence and competing priorities. As a woman in sport, I also value the importance of inclusive and equitable sporting environments. Through experiencing multiple injuries, I understand the challenges of rehabilitation, returning to play and staying connected to sport during setbacks. Through leadership roles in residential life, I have worked closely with students from diverse cultural, regional and socioeconomic backgrounds, supporting inclusion and belonging.
