The ANU SCUBA Club was founded in May 1968 and aims to foster and promote SCUBA diving in the ANU community by facilitating trained members to carry out high quality, affordable diving.
The ANU SCUBA Club was founded in May 1968 and aims to foster and promote SCUBA diving in the ANU community by facilitating trained members to carry out high quality, affordable diving. The club owns two boats, two compressors, and has a range of SCUBA gear available for hire (or free for students). Club members coordinate regular dive trips from Eden to Forster and everywhere in between, with occasional trips further afield, including an biennial pilgrimage to Lady Musgrave Island in the Great Barrier Reef. Most trips involve camping in attractive coastal locations to keep costs down.
Club membership requires an autonomous SCUBA certification (at least open-water). While the Club does not run training courses, diver certification can be undertaken at the local dive shops (Straightline SCUBA in Fyshwick or InDepth in Belconnen), or other certified agencies. The Club then provides an environment for furthering diving proficiency, boat handling, equipment maintenance, and other allied skills. The ANUSC is run by volunteering members, comprises a range of ages and levels of experience, and is family-friendly. The club is a proponent of safe diving, and environmentally responsible practices.
