The Australian National University Sailing Club (ANUSC) sails on Lake Burley Griffin from our boatshed in Yarralumla Bay.
The Australian National University Sailing Club (ANUSC) sails on Lake Burley Griffin from our boatshed in Yarralumla Bay, Yarralumla. Our boatshed has full shower and toilet facilities as well as a clubroom, all within bike riding distance of the ANU campus.
The club owns a range of Lasers, Tasars, Light Weight Sharpies (Sharpies), Pacers, Windsurfers, a 470, and a Contender. This variety allows members to sail single handed or in crews of 2 or 3. Additionally the club has a number of kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards. The boats are divided into general use and racing boats. Most boats are general use boats available to all members after they have shown that they can safely rig and handle them through an on-water evaluation. Racing boats, Sharpies and the 470 are restricted for experienced sailors only to train, compete or sail.
The ANU Sailing Club holds Introduction To Sailing Days at least once a semester for new club members and also runs training for beginners throughout the sailing season. Beginners training is in the form of one-on-one sessions with qualified training instructors at rates significantly below those of other ACT clubs.
Club members can compete in Tuesday twilight racing run through the YMCA Sailing Club. Racing is also run on Saturdays but this requires joining the YMCA Sailing Club through our reduced fees deal. The club’s boatshed may also be open at other times and this will generally be posted on the club’s Facebook group (members only).
Each year the club also sends a team to the Australian University Games as well as competing in various local regattas in Canberra and Batemans Bay. The ANU Sailing Club is a great community and we encourage anyone to join us.
Important Notes
ANU Sailing Club membership is on an annual basis from 1 April to 31 March the following year. Currently enrolled ANU Students will be able to join for 14 months from 1 February 2023.

Membership Requirements
Membership Classes
The club offers two classes of membership, as per ANU Sport Association requirements, as follows:
Membership Levels
Access to club boats requires club members to hold a valid membership. There are three grades of membership as follows, depending on skill:
Red - Represent General Membership.
Amber - Represent Training Membership.
Green - Represent Competent Membership.
Approval for members to skipper Racing Boats and/or Light Weight Sharpies will be separately and individually provided by a qualified committee member. Additionally, use of the club Rubber Inflatable Boat (RIB) rescue vessel is restricted to members who have a valid NSW power boat licence and only then for valid committee approved non-recreational purposes.
A current member may invite guests to attend the club as a temporary member. The temporary member may use the club facilities at the same level of membership as the current member, provided the current member is responsible for the temporary member. The period of temporary membership is 3 occasions or 3 weeks. If the temporary member wishes to continue to attend the club beyond this period, the temporary member must join the club as a full member.
