Athlete Profile-Alexandra Staib

What is your sport?

How many hours per week do you spend training/playing?

What study are you undertaking at ANU? What year of study are you in?

3rd year of a Law and Commerce double degree

How do you juggle the commitments of playing sport and studying?

(With sometimes poorly executed) organisation and planning

Does sport assist you in your academic pursuits?

Not specifically, but being active helps me when I need to sit down and focus

Greatest sporting achievement.

Being the highest goal scorer for the Australian Women’s National team during the 2017 World Cup Qualifiers.

What is your long term sporting goal?

For Floorball to become an Olympic sport and to have an opportunity to compete at the games

Who has had the greatest influence on your sporting career thus far?

A man named Peter “Macca” McNally, who coached me through my juniors years as a field hockey player, and brought me across to floorball because he saw the potential in me. He taught me many valuable lessons on and off the field, and I wouldn’t be the athlete I am today without him.

Who is your sporting idol & why?

I don’t really have an idol, just a lot of respect for anyone out there trying to be the best athlete they can be

Any superstitions or unusual game day preparations?

I’m unsuperstitious, almost to the point of superstition – purposely doing things differently so there can’t be a “lucky” way to put on my shoes, or any “lucky” game day rituals
